FeedSquares for Chrome provides a refreshing way to experience Google Reader on Chrome and read your favorite feeds in style. To begin using FQ, please first login to your Google Reader Account (via Google).
After you login, your very own wall of feed squares will spring into view. Each square represent a feed from your Google Reader Subscriptions. Simply scroll horizontally (or mouse wheel) to view all your subscriptions. To give your better grasp of what's latest for that feed, you will notice that some thumbs will show up gradually.
The top is a list showing the folders you have assigned for your feeds. Click on a label to see feeds inside that category.
To begin reading a feed, simply tap any square and enter the feed view.
Roll over your mouse to start viewing the list of horizontal items from you feed, just click on it to open the item view and view its content. You can star and share the item here as well.
Customizing FeedSquares
If you favor a darker background, just click on Night to get a darker theme. Click on options to open FQ's options page. You can further adjust how frequent you want to update your feed data. For notebook users who uses trackpad, please enable the trackpad mode.

I just installed this and can't wait to use it!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou can't scroll until you have actually selected an item from a group!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't it scroll when you select a group without the step above?
This is wonderful! Thank you.
ReplyDelete@vavud: Hi, could you be more specific? Do you mean can't scroll the squares/items/item's content?
ReplyDeletecustom backgrounds and color choices please?
ReplyDeletelooks nice but to me its more of a gimmick, i cant move the icons around, no drag n drop & how am i supposed to add more rss feeds? do i have to go into google reader to add more or configure other things? i uninstalled after i couldnt figure out how to do any of those things from the main screen or after clicking a feed.
ReplyDelete@JayQ330: Hi, FeedSquares will automatically sort your icons according to folders. So there is no need to manually drag & drop the squares. The "Add to the Google Reader" button is available on many sites and there is seldom need to copy and paste to add a feed. However, we will add support to that in later versions.
ReplyDeleteIs there any development for an iPhone/iPad version soon? I don't see this extension as a gimmic, it's a lot easier way to see your RSS feeds. Google Reader needs a revamp, I actually like the layout of Google reader on my igoogle page, but this is even better visually.
ReplyDeleteYou Rock Rocket-in-Bottle!
I love this... I had just struggled with reading my feeds on my droid and had wished for something simpler and more eye pleasing...clearer to view, you know? I gave up on droid, went to the laptop, and here it is. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMost of my new feeds come from BBC and I find out that I have to pop up another window to listen to the file. It's not like the original Google reader which is enable the new feeds to play on the same screen. I hope you guys will integrate this function in a near future. It would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you
@Tracy: May I know the url of the BBC news that you are referring to?
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea! Works pretty well. I installed the Android version and have a few suggestions for making it easier to use. Where should I send android version suggestions?
ReplyDeleteVery cool. Like the style. I'd like to put in a request for keyboard shortcuts.
ReplyDeleteVery nice visualisation! Only criticism is that the background colour and positioning of the blocks appears to be random; it would be useful to show frequently-updated feeds as "hot", at the centre of the screen, and infrequently-updated ones as "cold", towards the periphery.
ReplyDelete@Alastair
ReplyDeleteCurrently FeedSquares cluster frequently visited sites at the center. We will consider other sorting methods in future versions, thanks!

ReplyDeleteA good concept, but I find it frustrating that I can't use the keyboard to navigate, only the mouse and that kinda ruins it for me.
ReplyDeleteit's OK
ReplyDeleteNice product! Keyboard shortcuts is a must, please!
ReplyDelete@韦日宝: Thanks for the comments. The shortcut keys function is coming in the next version.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so thrilled. This un-condenses a concise list view from Reader, and shows less information in more room. For me, it just does not work.
ReplyDeleteดี
ReplyDeleteHow to display feeds which only has unread items
ReplyDeleteeu gostei
ReplyDelete@Riyaz Please click 'personalize!' and click 'Read Feeds Visible' and then it will become 'Read Feeds Hidden'.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteLoving this new approach to viewing news. Can we have a version for iPhone please!
ReplyDeleteGreat app, one quick feature request is when pinning the tab on Google Chrome have your FQ icon represent itself rather than the plain blank white page.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great extension. I keep feedly installed just to manage my feeds. The option I think FQ should have is to set is as your homepage.
ReplyDeleteDitto: A good concept, but I find it frustrating that I can't use the keyboard to navigate...
ReplyDeletealso, it strains the neck always be looking down to the individual feed on the bottom of the screen and scroll across it. anyway it could be lightboxed and up higher?
@Arnoud
ReplyDeleteOh, at the moment we don't recommend setting FeedSquares as your homepage as it requires certain Chrome functionalities to work. These functions may not be ready at Chrome startup.
@Kalanna
FeedSquares now supports the same keyboard shortcuts as Google Reader. You can find a full list here:

I want - no, NEED - a firefox version for the work computer.
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to read items from "All items" (or even a label/folder) all at once? I don't want to read from individual feeds.
ReplyDeleteLike! May be tough to lure me away from Feedly, but looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteI just added this and am looking forward to a little beauty in my newsfeed. chermitoils.blogspot.com contenthermitcriesout.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOMG Thanks! Being a design bitch I appreciate any makeup you can splatter on that fugly Reader. Hahahahahhaa...
ReplyDeleteHi, very nice: running on a netbook, but can't seem to access feeds below the menubar, which sits over them at the bottom of the screen. Can't scroll down, move icons... Can't read the feeds!
ReplyDeleteI like the app, very useful, but can I report the problem that on my 1024x600 resolution Netbook Screen, the options sit over the squares and there is no vertical scroll bar. That means I can't see the lower feeds. See screenshot here http://twitpic.com/3ebm90
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. For netbooks, why not try our new product, NewsSquares? https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mkmehbmdeabanfnddlekelahkaclfdhl :P
ReplyDeleteI just installed Rockmelt and this is the first app/ext I installed. So far it's looking good. Makes changing over a lot easier!
ReplyDeleteI love the app but it seems I need a laptop with a better resolution...
ReplyDeleteThanks for your help in talking about this. Great review! Also turn your attention that it needs to search for mobile software development companies if you need mobile development software.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a really cool idea and think I will like using it. Right now though I am not finding this tutorial very helpful! How do I categorize my feeds? I know it says you can do this, but doesn't explain how. This was actually the feature I was looking forward to most. Help! How do I create categories and add my feeds to my custom categories?
ReplyDeletesame problem. I can add new feeds: I cannot categorize the new feed. How is this done please or is this an oversight. unfortunately its a dealbreaker..
DeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI Love FeedSquares for Chrome. Would it be possible to add a shortcut to jump to the next subscrition that has unread items? It would be similar to "shift+n/p: next/previous subscription (will go through all feeds instead of feeds in current folder)" but would only jump to subscription that has new items. It would be even better if it jumped to subscriptions within that folder...
Thank you!
